Back to (Writers of) the Future!

Thanks to my story "Betrayer of Trees," I'll be spending the next week at the Writers of the Future workshop, which culminates in the awards ceremony Friday evening at the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle. I've been looking forward to this for the past year, as I had a great time at the workshop last year.

Writer Interview: Brandon Sanderson

This was originally written for the Bloggernacle Times, but since BT doesn't appear to be coming out of hiatus any time soon, I'm posting it here. A few months ago, I stayed up until 2:30 in the morning reading. I had not intended to stay up that late, but I was engrossed in a new fantasy novel and I wanted... read more »

The Cursed Play

I was supposed to do a book signing on Saturday, but the book distributor sent the books to the wrong place, so it got cancelled. That gave me a chance to go see my sister Carolyn as the Second Witch in Macbeth at the Old Globe down in San Diego. The trip also gave me a chance to meet Bloggernacle... read more »

Writing Update

Just because I haven't been blogging doesn't mean I haven't been writing. Analog with my story available

But if your local bookstore doesn't carry it, you don't have to miss out: you can get it as a download from Fictionwise. It's only $3.99 for the whole issue, and it's available in a variety of electronic formats, including printable PDF.... read more »

Reviews

My novelette "Resonance" has received a couple of reviews: SFRevu's short fiction reviewer gave a brief positive review in which he called it "a classic Analog story," which is exactly the feel I was going for when I wrote it. The short fiction reviewer for the Internet review of Science Fiction gave the story a detailed review. Unfortunately, it's mostly... read more »

You’re going the wrong way, Tivo!

Apparently Tivo is trying to find ways to encourage viewers to watch ads so Tivo can make money off of advertising. For the most part, I don't want to watch advertising -- that's one of the reasons I have Tivo in the first place. Skipping through the ads takes a little effort, but it's better than sitting through them. I... read more »

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I bought the book a little after midnight last night, and I finished it a few minutes ago. (I was not reading continuously in between.) I think it's very good, and even if I managed to guess some of its twists, others eluded me.
