Productive Insomnia

During a fit of insomnia last night, I was looking at the various plugins for Movable Type (the software I use to run my blogs.) One of them added the capability of auto-linking Bible references to an online Bible. That reminded me of something I read on someone's blog (I think it was A Soft Answer, but I can't find... read more »

This woman has no shame

Gunman's Mom Wants Worker Compensation The mother of a man who killed three co-workers before shooting himself in a workplace rampage has asked the company to compensate her for her son's death because it occurred at work, the company said on Tuesday. He kills three people and then, after a shootout with police, kills himself. And his mother thinks she... read more »

Engine-jumpers

One final procrastinated assignment, with less than twenty-five minutes before class (and I still need to drive there, too): Write at least three additional sentences continuing the idea expressed in each of the following: 1. I don't know why I always run outside when lightning flashes and I can smell the ozone in the air. Maybe it's because... I read... read more »

Character

Yet another procrastinated assignment, with less than half an hour to go before class: Choose three traits (from a list) and write a paragraph about an imaginary person, showing him doing and saying things that let the reader know what he's like. She wasn't really prying, thought Edna. If Janet hadn't wanted anyone to read her diary, she would have... read more »

Setting

Another procrastinated assignment, with less than an hour to go before class: Write a beginning paragraph or two, in which you include at least three of the following ways to indicate setting: Location, sounds, smells, weather/season, atmosphere (feeling of the place), touch. Clark Phelps could hear the ticking of the clock on the wall behind him. He glanced at his... read more »

Monday Night Football

This Monday Night Football was a bit of a snoozer, until the last four minutes of regulation. The Colts scored three TD's in the last 3:37 to tie the game. It's now in overtime. I'm hoping the Colts pull it off, but it's not looking good as I write this, because the Buccaneers are almost in field goal range. UPDATE:... read more »

[Insert your own Schwarzenegger movie-title pun here]

I'll admit it: I'm an Arnold Schwarzenegger fan. I saw True Lies seven times in the theater -- twice in a row on the sneak preview night. For years, as there were rumors he might eventually run for governor, I hoped he'd do it. When the recall qualified for the ballot, I hoped he'd run. And I was excited when... read more »

Titles

I'm taking a creative writing class through UVSC's community education program. The teacher is Sharon Jarvis, who has published a few novels. (This is the second class I've taken through UVSC; the previous one was last summer, from Caleb Warnock.) Anyway, the class is on Tuesday nights, and so, true to my procrastinating nature, I am just now getting around... read more »

General Conference

Went to both sessions of (LDS Church) General Conference today. (Also went to the Priesthood session yesterday.) My favorite talk was by Elder Wirthlin, which gave me some ideas about some things I need to start doing.

Football stuff

A few various football notes: 1. Good news: BYU developed an offense yesterday. It's about time. 2. Bad news: I'm going to lose my fantasy football game. 3. Good news: The Cowboys won. Well, two out of three ain't bad.
