In the next couple of days I’m going to be moving this blog (and the rest of my personal sites) to a new server.
No, I’m not betraying the company I work for by doing so.
Currently, this blog is hosted by Fanspace.com. Fanspace.com happens to be owned by yours truly. But the actual hosting is not really done by Fanspace.com; it’s done through the Community Architect partnership program. Community Architect is a property of About Web Services (formerly known as NorthSky, and prior to that known as Direct Connect.) About Web Services is a division of About (formerly known as About.com, and prior to that known as The Mining Co.), which is now part of Primedia.
A little over four years ago, I got a job with Direct Connect and despite all the company permutations, I am still there.
This blog is hosted on the high-end package offered on the Community Architect platform. It can run CGI’s, which is how I got Movable Type to work, but its CGI support is limited. But we’ve recently begun offering virtual private servers on a different platform, and marketing that service through GlobalServers. The low-end package on Globalservers is more powerful than the high-end package on Community Architect. So I’m moving to that. It should add a lot of flexibility to what I can do.
But, since it’s a different platform, some of the server-side stuff I’m doing now will have to be adapted to the new system. So if you visit this page during the next few days and everything’s all messed up, it’s probably due to experimentation with the new system.
