Setting

Another procrastinated assignment, with less than an hour to go before class: Write a beginning paragraph or two, in which you include at least three of the following ways to indicate setting: Location, sounds, smells, weather/season, atmosphere (feeling of the place), touch.

Clark Phelps could hear the ticking of the clock on the wall behind him. He glanced at his watch: 5:32. More than half an hour after his interview was supposed to start. They must be running late; he hoped that didn’t mean the candidate they were interviewing now was particularly good.

He leaned forward and again picked up one of the ancient magazines from the table, this one an issue of Time. He thumbed through its worn pages absentmindedly, then tossed it back on the table. The clock continued to tick.
