NaNoWriMo 2006

November is National Novel Writing Month — NaNoWriMo for short. The goal is to write at least 50,000 words from November 1 to November 30.

I’ve decided to participate this year. My previous best month for word count was under 30,000 words, so it’ll be a stretch to get to 50,000. But i feel the need to push myself, because lately I haven’t done much writing.

What novel will I be writing for NaNoWriMo? Tune in tomorrow to find out. (That means I haven’t quite made up my mind.)

Trust

A quote from the two-hour Battlestar Galactica third-season premier that aired last week. (A little background for those unfamiliar with the series: Sharon is a Cylon [humanoid robot] who betrayed her people last season and helped the humans.)

Sharon: Can I ask you a question? How do you know? I mean, how do you really know that you can trust me?

Admiral Adama: I don’t. That’s what trust is.

Sale: “Tabloid Reporter to the Stars”

I just got an email from Edmund R. Schubert, the editor of Orson Scott Card’s Intergalactic Medicine Show, saying that he would like to buy my story “Tabloid Reporter to the Stars.” (I originally titled the story “The First Ambassador,” but I decided “Tabloid Reporter to the Stars” gave a better idea of the story’s flavor.) The story will probably appear in the next issue.

My famousness reaches new heights

From an auction that recently ended on ebay:

Here are 13 different paperback volumes from the L. RON HUBBARD Presents WRITERS OF THE FUTURE series. These are all mass market paperbacks except for BEST OF which is a trade paperback. These are all first printings with the number lines starting at 1. Cover price started at $4.50 and slowly went up to $7.99. BEST OF was $14.95. All are in VG+/NF- condition with slight shelfwear (except as noted). Some have been signed. Vol 3 (cover by Frank Frazetta) has reader’s crease. Signed by A. J. Budrys, M. Shayne Bell (personalized) and Dave Wolverton. Vol 4 (cover by Frazetta). Signed by A. J. Budrys, Orson Scott Card and Tim Powers (personalized). Vol. 5 (cover by Frazetta). Signed by A. J. Budrys. Vol 6 (cover by Frazetta). Signed by A. J. Budrys. Vol 7 (cover by Frazetta) Signed by A. J. Budrys, and Dave Wolverton. Vol. 8 Signed by Dave Wolverton. Vol 9 Signed (personalized) by Kathleen Dalton-Woodbury. Vol 10. (cover by Frazetta) Signed by Dave Wolverton and Jennifer Roberson (personalized). Vol. 14 Signed by Dave Wolverton. Vol. 16 Unsigned. Vol 20 Signed by Eric James Stone. Vol 21 (cover by Frazetta) Signed by Eric James Stone. And finally, THE BEST OF WRITERS OF THE FUTURE. (Cover by Frazetta) Signed by M. Shayne Bell, Nina Kiriki Hoffman (personalized), Dave Wolverton (personalized) and Tim Powers (personalized).

All those books… all those autographs… and the auction didn’t get even one bid for the minimum $9.99. So I guess my famousness still has room to grow.
