I’m not omniscient

One of the interesting things about writing fiction is that even when you think you know the story you’re writing, you can still be surprised by what ends up on paper. (Or represented electronically on screen.)

In the chapter I just finished, for example, the introduction of the character Kairith was planned as part of the plot. I knew who he was and what he had to do in order to advance the storyline. But I didn’t know what he was like until I wrote him.

You’re introducing characters in chapter 56? Sounds… really interesting, actually.

I would suggest mention of this character a little sooner. But it’s an interesting chapter.

    Ollie,

It’s someone the main characters meet during their journey. I actually introduced new characters in chapters 50, 52 and 53.

    Kaimi,

I did mention the existence of this type of character back in chapter 7, and maybe a couple of other places. But I think you’re right, an earlier reference to this particular one would be in order.

Actually, now that I’ve chewed on it, of COURSE you’re introducing characters. Especially in a fantasy (though I don’t know anything about yours), there are always plenty of new people to meet. I guess I had it in my head that you were introducing a main character and not a minor or walk-on.
