Major Barbara

I spent the weekend in San Diego, visiting my sister Carolyn. She was playing the title role in Shaw’s play “Major Barbara.” She did an excellent job in a very demanding role.

Interesting, isn’t it, how much we can be moved by the circumstances of fictional characters? I know Carolyn is my sister and that she is only acting, and yet in the final scene before the intermission I found my eyes tearing up at what has happened to Major Barbara, and how she is making an effort not to cry.
