Yet another Writers of the Future update
I got a phone call from the contest administrator today, letting me know that “Betrayer of Trees” is the second-place winner for the quarter. That means a prize of $750, the opportunity to be published in their 2005 anthology, and the chance to attend the awards ceremony in 2005.
Needless to say, I’m very excited about this. [If it's needless to say, why did you say it? -ed.]
UPDATE: Welcome, Times & Seasons readers. Feel free to look around. Because of the lag time between selling stories and having them actually appear in print, none of my stories are in print yet. But you can see some fragments of various stories here.

Hey, I’m a visiter from Times and Seasons.
Congrats!
Congratulations from me too. And when you become famous, try not to forget the little folk who used to read your blog. :)
That is so great! What are you going to do with the prize money?
Congrats Eric! And congrats on being one of the twelve winners for your “The Man Who Moved the Moon” story!
Funny, I haven’t visited here forever and I’m still the comment champion of your blog.
Oh, and I noticed that you have two categories that I would think should be one unless you have some reason for separating them, which I can’t figure out. They are:
- My Writing
- Writing
Anyway, congrats again! I’m so impressed!
So you didn’t actually fall off the face of the Earth when you stopped your personal blog, Rachel?
Yes, my categories are in a little bit of disarray. “Writing” was supposed to be about writing in general, “My Writing” was supposed to be about my writing. But it’s all kind of mixed together.
Carlene, I didn’t mean to ignore your question; I guess I just somehow missed it when you posted your comment.
Right now, I’m putting all my earnings from writing into a separate bank account. I’ll use money from that account toward my writing expenses. But I’m not planning to splurge on anything.
Well, except for… but I’ll have to do a separate blog entry for that.
No, I’m still around although after doing Canada’s Federal and Quebec’s Provincial taxes all day today I wish I had fallen off the face of the Earth. Unless I made a mistake we’ll be owing a total of $2,300 (Canadian) which of course we don’t have. I don’t know what to do. Things were finally moving upwards financially for us and then BAMB we’re back in the dumpster.
Anyway, I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one to come back… it’s great that your muse stopped by to help you out!
[...] Thanks to my story “Betrayer of Trees,” I’ll be spending the next week at the Writers of the Future workshop, which culminates in the awards ceremony Friday evening at the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle. [...]
