In looking at the search terms with which people have found my blog, there are several who have searched for “Sharon Estone.” (And now that I’ve actually used the words close together like that, I’ll probably show up in even more searches.)
Unsuprisingly, those searches come from Spanish-langauge versions of Google: google.com.mx (Mexico), google.com.es (Spain), etc.
For those who are not familiar with Spanish, let me explain. In Spanish, there are no words that begin with what’s called s impure: an s followed by a consonant. (That’s why it’s español, not spañol.) So a last name like Stone violates that rule, and must therefore really be Estone. When my family lived in Latin America, people pronounced our name “Eston.”
So, it’s not surprising that, when searching for our cousin Sharon, people from Spanish-speaking countries spell the last name wrong. they probably do the same with Uncle Oliver. (A little inside family joke, there. I am not actually related to either Sharon or Oliver Stone. (Or Sharon or Oliver Estone, for that matter.))
Así pues, en vez de buscar “Sharon Estone,” usted debe buscar “Sharon Stone.”
