Based on the strange MWC results yesterday, BYU is still in contention for a share of the MWC title.
BYU would need to beat Utah, of course, to end up 4-3 in conference play.
Air Force: If they lose to either at New Mexico or at San Diego State, they end up 4-3. If they lose to both, they end up 3-4.
Utah: If they lose to Wyoming and at BYU, they end up 4-3.
Colorado State: If they lose one out of three against New Mexico, San Diego State, and UNLV, they end up 4-3. If they lose two games, they end up 3-4.
New Mexico: If they lose one out of three against Colorado State, Air Force, and Wyoming, they end up 4-3.
Wyoming: If they lose one out of three against Utah, New Mexico, and UNLV, they end up 4-3. If they lose two, they end up 3-4.
San Diego State: Even if they win all three games against UNLV, Colorado State, and Air Force, they only end up 4-3.
UNLV: Even if they win all three games against San Diego State, Colorado State, and Wyoming, they only end up 4-3.
Now, it’s possible for four teams to end up 4-3, with BYU having beaten each of the other three 4-3 teams. Here’s how it plays out:
Next weekend, Colorado State (3-2) beats New Mexico (2-3), and UNLV (2-3) beats San Diego State (1-4).
On November 15, New Mexico (3-3) beats Air Force (3-3), Wyoming (3-2) beats Utah (4-2), and San Diego State (2-4) beats Colorado State (3-3).
On November 22, San Diego State (3-4) beats Air Force (3-4), UNLV (3-3) beats Colorado State (3-4), New Mexico (4-3) beats Wyoming (3-3), and BYU (4-3) beats Utah (4-3).
On November 29, UNLV (4-3) beats Wyoming (3-4).
Unlikely, of course. But possible.
