New Short Story

During the weekend, I finished a new short story. I can’t specifically mention what it’s about just yet, or even how long it is, because it was written for a little contest at the Codex writers’ forum, and the judging is supposed to be done anonymously. Since some Codexians might read my blog, I must be discreet. (For the same reason, I cannot upload it yet to my critique area.)

However, I can tell you that the story involves at least one item from each of the following lists, because that’s what the contest required:

LIST A

  • Magic Shoes
  • A broken cell phone
  • A nun spontanesously combusts
  • The spleen of a former South American military leader

LIST B

  • Passing out on a sidewalk
  • She talks to angels
  • A myopic alien
  • A kukri knife (used by Nepalese Ghurkas)
  • An orphan’s love for the parents it never knew

LIST C

  • Broken eyeglasses
  • A red room
  • A Giant Voodoo Lily
  • The inside of a neutrino detector
  • Dreaming you’re warden for a prison for dogs.

Job opening

There’s a job opening at my company for a “Marketing Manager.” Here’s the basic job description:

Manage the development and communication of United Online acquisition, retention, member communication programs, product marketing and other marketing efforts including online marketing campaigns, up-sell programs, pricing strategies, promotions and reseller program management, etc.

What that basically means is you’ll be coordinating advertising for our website hosting services. (Note: It does not involve managing other employees, which is what I tend to think of when I hear the word “manager.”) We do almost all of our marketing online, so previous experience in Internet marketing is very important.

To see the duties and necessary qualifications, go to this form and choose “Orem, UT” as the location.

If you apply for the job, please mention that I referred you, as I get some cash if they hire you.
