Times and Seasons spinoffs

It seems to me that Times and Seasons could expand its dominance of the Mormon blogosphere by creating spinoff blogs. Here are a few possibilities:

Thymes and Seasonings: Blog about LDS cooking
Rhymes and Reasons: Blog for LDS poetry and logic
Climes and Seasons: Blog about the weather in Utah
Tithes and Caesar’s: Tithing and taxation blog
Crimes and Treasons: 12th Article of Faith blog

Feel free to suggest more in the comments.

Ender

My brother Michael and his wife, Jeannie, have a new addition to their family. They’ve named him Ender. They’ve posted pictures of Ender on their blog.

Chapter 51 is done

Not much to say other than that.

120K & 38

Today I passed a couple of milestones:

I’ve now written 120,000 words in my novel.

I’ve now lived 38 years.

Having written

Jerry Pournelle says he has never known anyone other than Isaac Asimov who enjoyed writing. He knows plenty of people who enjoy having written, but not the process of writing.

I guess I would say that there are times when I enjoy the writing itself, but most of the time the writing is something I must do in order to have the satisfaction of having written.

On arriving home from my trip to San Diego, I found a check from Analog for my story “Resonance,” which was accepted a few months ago. Getting paid for having written just makes it that much better.

Major Barbara

I spent the weekend in San Diego, visiting my sister Carolyn. She was playing the title role in Shaw’s play “Major Barbara.” She did an excellent job in a very demanding role.

Interesting, isn’t it, how much we can be moved by the circumstances of fictional characters? I know Carolyn is my sister and that she is only acting, and yet in the final scene before the intermission I found my eyes tearing up at what has happened to Major Barbara, and how she is making an effort not to cry.

Chapter 50 is done

I’ve finished chapter fifty of my novel. I was originally planning for about 50 chapters, but it grew a bit. So I’m not done yet.

The Final Element

Well, over the past two days I’ve written my first new complete short story since September. It’s a science fiction mystery story involving a forged Stradivarius violin. I’m not too pleased with the character names at the moment, so I’ll probably search & replace later.
